There have been different policy proposals for tackling space debris in recent years. In particular, the proposals include the Sustainable Space Rating (SSR) initiative, the idea of active space debris removal and pricing, the concept of space environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, and the possibility of a Net Zero policy for space debris emission. Implementing the different policies may share some similar and different challenges. This roundtable discussion aims to bring together experts in the abovementioned realms to discuss the opportunities and challenges of implementing their respective policies. In addition, an expert will join the discussion to share lessons from the existing decarbonization policies for climate change. The discussion will end by exploring the overarching policy coherence of the different proposals for addressing space debris.
